2024 BEGINNINER BEEKEEPING CLASS

The Fairfax Beekeepers Club is pleased to announce a beginning beekeeping classes at South Lakes High School in Reston, VA

Registration will close on February 20, 2024.

The class will be Wednesday evenings: 7-9 pm at South Lakes High School.

The Class is 8 weeks long and approximately 2 hours per class (a couple may take a little longer). You’ll get a textbook and a USB drive that contains all kinds of relevant information. A family member (spouse, older child, or significant other) is welcome without additional cost, but you’ll have to share books and materials.

The final class is in the field where you will be able to inspect a beehive with an instructor, locate eggs, brood, queen, and learn to use the tools of the trade

The class covers :

• Bee biology and sociology.
• Proper location for a bee hive
• Types of hives, vendors, and purchasing equipment
• Installing bee packages or nuc hives.
• Spring, summer, fall and winter management.
• Identifying, preventing, and managing disease and pests.
• Products from the hive, including honey, wax, propolis, and pollen.
• Other topics to ensure the success of a new beekeeper.
